A number of cities around San Francisco have passed resolutions that have tried to stop the building a mega-casino complex that is to be built near Bay Lake. This is after the federal government approved the plans.

It all began when a landless group of thirty Indians decided to build a casino on the site of their ancestral lands. The federal govern met approved this, as they do with all Indian Casinos, according the Indian Casino Act, specifying that Indians can build casino on their lands if they wish to do so. When the group filed to build the biggest casino in California in Oakland, they met with approval from the federal government.

According to the plans, the casino would house a huge casino, a two hundred room hotel, a day spa and a nightclub. It was planned that the casino would bring in the city of Oakland eleven million dollars a year and give jobs to more than four thousand people. The plan sounds tempting, however, the Indians met with stiff opposition from the residents of Oakland and the surrounding town. As they said, the casino was a tempting plan, but that it would be more that it would be worth.
